Rewards Terms & Conditions
Last updated: [DD Month YYYY] · For shoppers using the Cherrytag rewards programme
This is the plain-English agreement between Cherrytag and you, the shopper (a "Member"). If you're a café or restaurant owner subscribing your business, see our separate Cherrytag Subscriber Terms instead.

1. Accepting these terms

By creating a Cherrytag account, or by presenting a Cherrytag reward coupon or QR code at a participating business, you agree to these Rewards Terms & Conditions and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Cherrytag.

2. Who can join

  • You must be 16 years or older and able to enter a binding agreement under New Zealand law;
  • One account per person, linked to a single email address;
  • Cherrytag is currently available for participating cafés, restaurants, businesses in your region.

3. Your account

No physical rewards card or app download is required. You sign up with your email address and choose a PIN, and a personal QR code is generated for your account — this is what you show a participating business to record a visit or redeem a reward.

  • Keep your PIN and account access private — you're responsible for activity on your account;
  • If you forget your PIN, you can request a reset link to your registered email;
  • Email or Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account. We will perform verification.

4. How the Cherrytag network works

Cherrytag is a shared loyalty network — instead of a separate card or app for every business, one Cherrytag account tracks your visits and points across every participating business. Points are recorded on a network-wide ledger, and coupons issued through Cherrytag can be used as described on the coupon itself and honoured by participating businesses in the network.

5. Earning points

Points are earned based on how much you spend in a single transaction at a participating business, at a guide rate of approximately 1.0 point ≈ NZ$1.00 of transaction value:

You spendPoints earned (Indicative)
$5 – $130.5 point
$14 – $271.0 point
$28 – $491.5 points
$49+2.0 points

The above points earned are indicative only, and may be updated (increase or decrease) depending on the market's feedback and requirement. Some businesses may run their own configured tiers or bonus promotions within the network — where that's the case, the business will let you know at the point of sale.

6. Redeeming points and coupons

To keep rewards fair and meaningful for a business's genuine regulars, redemption isn't available immediately — it kicks in once you've built up a real relationship with the network:

  • You need a minimum of 4 repeat visits within the network before you're eligible to redeem; and
  • You need a qualifying points balance, generally 1.5 points or 2.5 points depending on the reward or business offer — the exact eligible amount is shown against each reward or coupon in the app.

Once eligible, you can generate a virtual reward coupon (shown as a QR code, typically worth 1.5, 2.5 or higher points depending on the reward chosen). Present it to staff to redeem — once scanned and confirmed, the coupon is used and the points are deducted from your balance. If you cancel a coupon before it's generated, the points are returned to your balance. Once the reward coupon is generated, it can't be cancelled.

Coupons and points can only be redeemed at participating Cherrytag businesses, are subject to that business having the advertised item or offer available, and may not be combined with other offers unless the business says otherwise. You can't earn new points on a transaction (or the part of a transaction) where you're redeeming a reward coupon — points are only earned on amounts paid in the ordinary way, as described in section 5.

7. The nature of points — not money

Not legal tender No cash-out Non-transferable to other people
  • Points and coupons have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, refunded or paid out as cash;
  • Points are personal to your account and can't be sold, gifted or transferred to another person;
  • We may set reasonable rules on point expiry after a long period of account inactivity — if we do, we'll notify you in the app or by email in advance;
  • We reserve the right to correct points balances affected by a technical error, and to reverse points earned or redeemed through fraud or misuse of the programme.

8. Who's responsible for what

Cherrytag operates the loyalty platform that lets you earn and redeem rewards — but the goods and services you purchase (your coffee, your meal, the reward item itself) are supplied by the participating business, not by Cherrytag. Any issue with the quality of a product or service, or a dispute about an in-store redemption, is between you and that business, though we're happy to help mediate where we can. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

9. Suspending or closing accounts

You can close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or close an account, or cancel points or coupons, where we reasonably believe it has been used fraudulently, to abuse the programme (for example, creating multiple accounts, or duplicating/reselling coupons), or in breach of these terms.

10. Changes to the programme

Because Cherrytag is a shared network across multiple independent businesses, we may need to adjust point tiers, redemption thresholds, or which businesses participate, from time to time. We'll post updates here and, for material changes, let you know via the app or email. Any change to point tiers or redemption thresholds will apply prospectively only — it won't reduce the value of points you've already earned or reduce your progress toward the repeat-visit threshold in section 6 as at the date of the change.

11. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cherrytag is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the programme, or for the unavailability of a particular business, reward or offer. Nothing in these terms limits any right or remedy you have under New Zealand consumer law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
